Johannes Trapl, Carnuntum

Winemaker Johannes Trapl grows traditional Austrian varieties organically in the region of Carnuntum

He has been on an organic journey lasting more 10 years with his vineyards receiving certification in 2006 and now from the 2016 vintage all of the wines are certified organic too. However he is not satisfied and is now devoted to working biodynamically, focusing on plant diversity in the vineyard, minimal sulphur usage and careful canopy management to allow the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly. This natural low tech approach is continued in the winery where grapes for the premium wines are foot-trodden. Native yeasts ferment the grapes and amphoras are used to help age the red wines concluding the truly natural and inspiring approach.
