Wines from one of the oldest vineyard area's in the world
Despite Greece having some of the
hottest vineyards in the world, which usually suggests red wine
production, Greece makes a surprising amount of white....and
excellent quality it is too!
The trick the Greeks use for whites is to exploit the
microclimates in cooler sites in mountainous regions such as Nemea,
or by benifitting from the maritime locations amongst the islands
such as Santorini. Despite the difficult to pronounce varietals
such as Agiorghitiko, Mavrodaphne, and Assyrtiko, the wines
themselves are very approachable and on par with any other great
wine producing regions of the world.
