Tommaso Rubino started the Tenute Rubino
project in the 1980's. A firm believer in Salento's potential, he
set out to acquire a substantial production area and succeeded in
securing four estates with the goal that each would show Salento
wine at its very best.
In 1999, son Luigi and wife Romina Leopardi formed Tenute Rubino
with a brand new winery and headquarters in Brindisi. The four
estates, Jaddico, Marmorelle, Uggio and Punta Aquila stretch from
the Adriatic coast to the hinterland of Brindisi in Salento,
Puglia.
The rediscovery of autochthonous grapes from Puglia is Tenute
Rubino's planting philosophy but innovation is represented in the
wines which have a modern style, but still paying homage towards
tradition. In the vineyard most of the work is entrusted to women.
It's a job full of tasks which require care, skill and attention,
and the Brindisi women have achieved a truly unique degree of
experience. Tenute Rubino recognises manual labour as an essential
factor for achieving quality and prestige.
The Women's harvest is a project to promote work in the
vineyards as one of the key factors of the entire production
process. All this translates into an event, organised every year in
the estate of Jaddico, on one of the first weekends of September. A
day of celebration in the countryside, open to journalists and to
the public, during which they celebrate the great work of the women
of Salento.
