The estate has been in Julia's family for
over 400 years and has always produced high quality wine. Julia's
great, great uncle even won a gold medal for a wine produced on the
estate at the Berlin wine fair in 1910! More recently the farm had
fallen into disrepair and the wine produced was only
consumed by the family.
Motivated by vivid childhood memories of time at the farm with
other members of her very large family (11 uncles and aunts and
over 50 cousins), Julia feels a strong sense of connection
with the land.
Though originally a lawyer, with the encouragement of her
father, Julia took over the estate determined to replicate the
great wines that it produced in the last century.
She has spent the last seven years carefully replanting the
vineyards and equipping the small winery with a little help from
family friend winemaker Dirk Nieport.
Accolades from the world's top journalists have poured in since
the first vintage in 2008 and the 2009 Branco was selected as one
of Portugal's Top 50 wines in 2012.
