Bonfire Hills, Elim and Overberg

Quality wines from some of South Africa's most extreme vineyards.

Bonfire Hill is a collaborative force making high quality wines amongst some of South Africa's top producers. Grapes come from a collective of "Extreme Vineyards" at The Drift Farm in Overberg Highlands, the Leeuwenkuil Family Vineyards and Cape Point Vineyards. The grapes are sourced from the wind-ravaged vineyards across Elim and the Overberg, the dryland bush vines in Swartland and the cold high slopes of the Piekernierskloof.

Attention is invested into all vines. Supercharged winemaker Trizanne Barnard then ferments the grapes naturally before the wine undergoes a delicate aging period, using mostly French Oak. The result are wines that are mouth-filling, succulent and delicious!

At the Drift Farm, bush fires are treated with the utmost caution and respect as they have first-hand experience of the ferocious destruction wind-driven summer wildfire can cause. At the winter solstice they celebrate the ancient festival of St John by building a big bonfire and burning any unwanted vegetation they have removed the previous year. This ritual is to prepare the way ahead, to transform habits and attitudes so the inner fire of this winery can glow more brightly, bringing courage and warmth to those around them.
