Producer Profile

After searching high and low for the perfect site they settled on the heights of Ribera del Duero, where in poor soils they found old, gnarly Tempranillo bush vines. Cair wines display the hallmark style of finesse and power, found in both Luis Canas and Bodegas Amaren in Rioja. Great balance between the fruit and the oak has seen these wines winning the IWC Ribera del Duero Trophy on occasion.

Viticulture

100% Tempranillo from very old vineyards, of more than 70 years old, that grow on poor soils, in the highest spots of the region, around 900 metres above the sea level. The production yields are around 2,500 kilos per hectare.

Winemaking

Grapes harvested by hand in small boxes. Double selection table to thoroughly sort bunches and grapes. Fermentation in wooden vats before malolactic fermentation takes place in new oak barrels for 24 months.

Oak Treatment

Time: 24 months; Type: French; % oaked: 100; % new oak: 100;

Tasting Note

Black cherry with violet hues around the rim. Very good depth of colour. The nose is intense, with a good balance between fruit and wood, with touches of fine wood, leather and black chocolate. Compoted black fruits and spices: vanilla, cloves and liquorice. Pleasant dairy nuances also appear. Its taste is ample, complex and powerful, with a good balance. Roasted and spicy tones also appear, well assembled with the ripe fruit. Silky smooth mouth feel with sweet tannins and a very long, lingering finish.

Food Matching

Perfect with suckling lamb, red meats or ripe cheese!
