La Crotta di Vegneron, Chambave Muscat, Val d'Aosta DOC, Italy, 2015
The vineyards are located at a fairly high altitude, ranging from 500 to 850m, and enjoy a special microclimate with little rainfall and a good diurnal temperature range. The delicate grapes like Petit Arvine, Fumin and Gamay thrive here, resulting in enticing wines with a lightness of touch and minerality.
South-east, south-west and north-east facing vineyards in the municipalities of Chambave Saint Denis, Chatillon, Verrayes at 450/700 metres above sea level where the soils are Moranic, loose and sandy on a gentle slope. The vines here are trained Guyot, Goblet and Cordon.
Vinified in stainless steel with a 36/48 hour pre fermentative cold maceration. Fermented at 12 – 16° C, then aged Sur Lie for 5 months in steel with frequent batonnage.
No oak treatment.
Straw yellow, with pale green hues. Refined, yet aromatic and floral whilst keeping notes of apricot, sage, thyme and peach. Excellent body, consistent, dry and lively with an elegant yet firm finish.
A delightful wine for an aperitif which also bodes well with shellfish and medium ripe cheese.
