Chateau de Lancyre, Esprit De Garrique, Languedoc, France, 2019

Producer Profile

The long overlooked style and quality of this increasingly fashionable appellation has been recognised with the ‘Grand Cru de Languedoc’ status.

The Durand and Valentin families are now recognised as one of the leading producers in the region, producing mouthwatering rosé and lush, velvety reds.

Viticulture

The grapes for this wine are sourced from their own vineyards from a 20ha plot just outside the Pic St Loup AOC meaning this is an AOC Languedoc wine.

Winemaking

Traditional wine-making methods. Total destemming. 15-day fermentation in temperature controlled vats. Pumping-over, rack-and-return and punching of the cap depending on tasting results. Tank ageing in an air-conditioned cellar.

Oak Treatment

No oak treatment

Tasting Note

This is a super AOC Languedoc wine from an outstanding family owned domain currently in conversion to certified organic. Full of the typical garrigue terroir with a slighly rustic element. A deep dark red verging on inky in colour. Spicy notes from the Syrah supporting the fresh strawberry notes from the grenache. A medium bodied wine with fresh acidity and smooth tannins. Lovely and supple on the palate and an excellent food wine.

Food Matching

Gratin dauphinoise, roast pork cooked with Provençal herbs, spaghetti served with a Bolognese sauce.
