Domaine Forey, France

One of the fascinating contrasts of the wine world is the way in which the wines of the Burgundy are so fanatically lauded and how unassuming the vignernons of Burgundy can be.

The down to earth nature of Regis Forey epitomises ‘the farmer’ you will encounter through a journey in this region. Based in the village of Vosne-Romaneé, with more than thirty vintages of experience and soil under his fingernails his wines show great concentration and depth with a rare touch of masculinity that shows that Regis doesn’t need to be the one who shouts about how great his wines are.

The Forey domaine now cultivates vines over 9.5 hectares of vineyards. Half of these vineyards are owned the other half on contract crop share. Régis was a revolutionary for the domaine acquiring vineyard parcels in Échezeaux and some Vosne Romanée 1er Cru Gaudichots. There is now a minimal use of herbicides and pesticides and grass swards are being retained in the more humid blocks, creating both competition and a more diverse microclimate. All harvesting is by hand.
