Symphonia, Victoria

Established in the 1980's by winemaker, Peter Read, who believed the climate and soils of the alpine-like King Valley in Victoria were ideal for growing some of the less well known cool climate varieties of the world.

Though planting the likes Saperavi, Tannat, Petit Manseng, Tempranillo and Albarino in Australia would no longer seem left-field, to have planted them in the 1980s was visionary thinking. Believing that the cool, alpine-like climate of Victoria's King Valley were ideal for these varieties, he set about establishing Symphonia. His vision and belief is continued today by Peter and Suzanne Evans who champion these quirky varieties, demonstrating an unexpected freshness and intriguing longevity in their wines thus proving that Peter really did have immense vision.
