The Drift Farm, Overberg Highlands

Driven by a desire to make individual, superb quality wines with  exceptional character The Drift wines are assiduously crafted by winemaker Bruce Jack using only the grapes grown on the farm.

The Drift specializes in four wines - a single vineyard Rosé, a single vineyard Pinot Noir, a single vineyard Barbera and a blended red wine from various varieties and vineyard sites on the farm. The vineyards planted are in small, irregular shaped plots to suit the various contours of the land, and the land is organically farmed. In the winery, these plots are fermented separately then married together to find balance and complexity.

Chief Winemaker and Farmer Bruce Jack grew up in Cape Town, the son of an architect and a musician/writer, so perhaps it was inevitable he would become a winemaker.

The Drift is a founding member of the Premium Independant Wineries of South Africa (PIWOSA), a collective of small yield winemakers working toegther to promote their hand crafted vintages to International markets.

Bruce Jack and the Drift farm established the Headstart Trust in memory of his mother, Elspeth who had a keen interest in the local community and a desire to stimulate social uplift. The trust provides and promotes equipment and education and outreach programs for educational enrichment, academic support and supplementary tuition to poor and needy children. A percentage from every sale of their estate wine, Moveable Feast funds the trust and Bruce also sells a a limited selection of exceptional wine from his personal wine library - the entire value of which will go to the Trust. They recently created a video to promote the Trust.
