Santhiago, Red Blend, Vinho Regional Lisboa, Portugal, 2020
The iconic Real Companhia Velha is the oldest wine company in Portugal, with a history of over 260 years of port production.
Founded in 1756 by the Portuguese Prime Minister Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo, Marquis of Pombal (called Douro Wine Company back then) to regulate the trade and production of all Port wine. One of the first official duties of the company was the delineation of the boundaries of the Douro wine region. This act essentially made the Douro the world's first regional appellation. Today this company represents some of the finest Quintas in the Douro. Prestigious and experienced, they have been able to preserve and honour the traditional winemaking while investing in the future with constant modernisation and experimentation in their vineyards.
A selection of the best Cabernet Sauvignon, Alicante Bouchet, Aragonez, and Trincadeira was carefully picked from Santhiago Vinyards to make this fantastic wine. The selection of grapes was carried out in the vineyard first, transported to the winery in small boxes where a second selection was done before vinification. All vineyard work is carried out in as sustainable manner as possible.
Fermentation and maceration take place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. There is no oak ageing. Each varietal contributing with its unique character and flavour to the blend.

An enchanting blend of indigenous Portuguese varietals with a proportion of the more familiar Cabernet Sauvignon. Richly fruited, with juicy dark berries, a hint of spice and wild herbal notes, giving lift and freshness to the wine. An approachable and easy drinking style, with an elegant structure, firm well-balanced tannins and defined, refreshing acidity.
Fairly versatile, this would go well with pasta dishes, curry as well as red meat cuts.
