Producer Profile

With a string of eye-watering scores from Mr Halliday, Garagiste is one of the most exciting producers in the Mornington Peninsula, defined by their small-batch Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. With focus on specific sites and sub-regions at the heart of what they do, coupled with the use of natural yeasts and no fining or filtration, its little surprise that the wines display a detail and texture that marks them out as beautifully crafted.

Viticulture

Vines are trellis trained in the Vertical Shoot Positioning system on a North facing slope, on sand and brown loam soils. Organic principles are at the heart of everything Garagiste do.

Winemaking

The grapes underwent 100% whole-bunch fermentation for 22 days. After maturation in old oak for 9 months, the wine was bottled unfiltered and with only minimal sulphur.

Tasting Note

This crackles with smoky spice, lifting from the glass with notes of cracked pepper, chilli seeds, tarragon, celery salt, bison grass, wet rocks, the first smoulder of lit autumn leaves and nuances of sweetly smoky fig backed up by a dry-toned cassis note. The palate has a lightly glycerol-like feel that is structured by chalky phenolics and relatively gentle but apparent acidity.
