BODEGAS ANTÍDOTO, Spain

Bodegas Antídoto is a standout winery founded in 2010 in Soria, at the eastern edge of Ribera del Duero, by French vigneron Bertrand Sourdais and Spanish agronomist David Hernando.

Their ambition is to revive the region’s pre-phylloxera vineyards and create terroir-driven wines that break from Ribera’s convention. The name Antídoto reflects a rebellion: countering mass-market Ribera styles with wines that are elegant, balanced, and have a true sense of place.

Viticulture

Bertrand and David manage a significant number of ungrafted, ancient Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) vineyards that are rare survivors of Phylloxera. They work hand in hand with vine-growers from the area of San Esteban de Gormaz, with 776 small plots that compose 110 hectares that extend through 15 villages. The land is influenced by the Central and Iberian Systems, the high plateau is crossed by the Duero River, and in the sandy and clay terrain on calcareous rock, vineyards and fields coexist. The river divides the red soils to the north from more yellowish and sandstone soils to the south. The continental climate is marked by cold winters, hot summers, and high diurnal range, softened by a Mediterranean influence. All these nuances have a marked influence on their wines.

Winemaking

The team oversees operations from vineyard to bottle, honouring traditional, site-specific crafting with thoughtful precision. They favour long, gentle macerations, minimal new oak-often using large 600L barrels with less than 25% new wood to preserve freshness and clarity.
