Chanzy: Authentic wines, true to terroir

Chanzy offers one of the most compelling Burgundy ranges for UK independent retailers today – with breadth, depth and consistent supply that are rare in the region. From crisp whites to cellar-worthy reds that over deliver in quality, intrigue customers and provide a reliable name for any Burgundy selection.

At the northern edge of the Côte Chalonnaise lies Bouzeron, the only appellation in Burgundy dedicated solely to Aligoté. Chanzy is its proudest ambassador - so much so, they are petitioning to have its flagship vineyard, Clos de la Fortune, recognised as a Premier Cru site.

Chanzy’s roots go back to 1928, with major growth under Daniel and Catherine Chanzy in the 1970s. The estate took another leap forward in 2013 when OLMA, specialists in luxury food and drink, acquired Chanzy and invested heavily, expanding holdings further. Today, Chanzy commands almost 70 hectares across Burgundy, with vineyards stretching from Bourzeron to Mercurey through to Beaune and even the grands crus of the Côte de Nuits. This rare scale for Burgundy allows Chanzy to offer consistency, breadth, and a reliable volume that few producers in the region can match.

This is one of the few producers in Burgundy to achieve Haute Valeur Environnementale Level 3, the most highly regarded certification for sustainable agriculture in France. Their commitment to biodiversity, careful soil management, and following a path to organic certification are not just box-ticking exercises but translate directly into their wines with purity and precision.

Winemaker Max Blondelle has a simple goal, to allow each parcel to express its terroir. From the delicate Aligoté in Bouzeron, to expressive Pinot Noir from Mercurey, or the refinement of a Vosne Romanée, the process from vineyard to bottle is carefully managed to highlight the natural character of the fruit.

Chanzy produces wines from fruit grown on their own vineyards by trusted growers. This gives the estate flexibility and scope to offer a wider range while consistently delivering more than their prices suggest.

The UK is Chanzy’s most significant export market, with the wines available exclusively through Alliance Wine. For those purchasing for on- and off-trade, that ensures continuity and dependable supply across the portfolio – a rare advantage in Burgundy, where scarcity often defines the market.

For those seeking Burgundy that is authentic, terroir-driven, and commercially reliable, from everyday essentials to fine wine gems, Chanzy stands as a true ally.
