Artelium, Chardonnay, East Sussex, England, 2023
Producer Profile
Curators, collaborators and custodians of English winemaking, art and nature, Artelium is a boutique estate in the heart of East Sussex crafting exceptional English still and sparkling wines.
Founded by Mark Collins and Julie Bretland in 2020, it is the embodiment of a long-held vision to create a space for people to come together and enjoy wine and art in a beautiful natural setting. The area has a proud heritage of artisans, which Mark and Julie wanted to celebrate by being a hub for artistic expression and innovative winemaking. Artelium sees each vintage as an opportunity to create pioneering styles of wine that will shape the future of the industry.
Viticulture
A wine of clarity and poise, shaped by fruit from both Artelium East and partner vineyards. With clay loam and chalk soils lending both freshness and depth, showing the vitality of English Chardonnay at its best.
Winemaking
The grapes were whole bunch pressed before being cold settled for 36 hours. Fermented in stainless steel to preserve freshness, then stabilised and filtered prior to bottling.
Tasting Note
Bright orchard fruits are lifted by lemon citrus, giving a lively and refreshing first impression. Subtle hints of beeswax and chamomile bring gentle refinement, while on the palate green apple and citrus zest lead with bright acidity. A juicy texture carries the flavours with energy, before a long, focused finish that is both mouthwatering and moreish.
Food matching
Enjoy it well chilled as an aperitif on a warm afternoon, pair it with soft goat’s cheese or seasonal vegetables, or set it alongside simply cooked seafood.
