Christophe Cordier, Pouilly-Fuissé Terroir de Pouilly, Burgundy, France, 2022

Producer Profile
Christophe Cordier’s estate comprises 30-odd hectares over a number of Village appellations in the Mâconnais region, including Mâcon-Fuissé Pouilly-Fuissé and Saint Veran.
He produces balanced wines by harvesting fresh ripe grapes that concentrate naturally due to their low yields, and in a distinctive house style that is always concentrated, rich and full. The domain’s high-tech winery includes a gravity bottling facility and a raft of high-quality large French oak casks for ageing that are toasted under Christophe’s direct supervision.
Viticulture
Crafted from 100% Chardonnay grapes sourced from the estate's vineyards. The vines are cultivated using organic and biodynamic methods, with practices such as short pruning, meticulous de-budding, manual thinning of leaves, and hand-picking to ensure the highest quality fruit. The vineyards are worked without tractors, often plowed by horse, to preserve soil life and structure .
Winemaking
The grapes undergo vinification using only indigenous yeasts, with fermentation taking place in neutral barrels and foudres. The wine is aged on its original gross lees for 12 months, followed by 6 months in stainless steel tanks, all done by gravity to minimise oxidation and preserve freshness. The wine is bottled without fining and with minimal filtration, maintaining its purity and expression of terroir
Tasting Note
A luminous pale gold colour. On the nose, it offers a refined bouquet of white flowers, citrus zest, and ripe orchard fruits, layered with subtle hints of toasted almond and flint. The palate is elegantly structured, displaying vibrant acidity balanced by a creamy texture and mineral undertones. Flavours of ripe pear, green apple, and lemon curd unfold with precision, leading to a long, refreshing finish that lingers with delicate notes of honey and vanilla. This wine showcases a beautiful harmony between freshness and richness, capturing the essence of its terroir with finesse.
