Producer Profile

This is a prestigious family-owned vineyard nestled in the heart of the Saumur region, Loire Valley, France.

Founded in the early 1900s by Clément Manguin and expanded by Robert Guiberteau with the iconic acquisition of Clos des Carmes in 1954, this estate blends rich heritage with exceptional winemaking expertise. Since 1996, under the visionary leadership of Romain Guiberteau, the domaine has embraced a bold commitment to quality over quantity. Guided by the expertise of renowned winemaker Nady Foucault from Clos Rougeard, Domaine Guiberteau has pioneered organic farming practices, proudly achieving official organic certification in 2007. Experience wines crafted with passion, tradition, and sustainable innovation — a true expression of the Loire Valley terroir. Elevate your portfolio with Domaine Guiberteau, where heritage meets excellence.

Viticulture

An organic approach is taken on the hill of Brézé, which is south-facing, rocky, sandy-silt soil over a chalky limestone bedrock. Initial sorting in the vineyard.

Winemaking

The village-level Saumur Rouge is destemmed and fermented with indigenous yeasts in cement tanks, then aged in barrel (80% new) for 18 months before spending further time in steel tank and bottle before release. Bottled without being filtered.

Tasting Note

Les Arboises offers a refined and expressive nose of blackcurrant, plum, and cherry, accented by notes of orange peel, cocoa, forest floor, and subtle spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied and layered, with fresh acidity, fine-grained tannins, and a mineral-driven finish that speaks to its chalky limestone terroir. Complex yet elegant, it shows excellent aging potential.

Food Matching

Roast duck with a cherry or red wine reduction, herb-crusted lamb, wild mushroom risotto, or grilled eggplant with lentils.
