La Bastide Blanche, Bandol Rouge, Fontanéou, Provence, France (150cl.), 2010

Producer Profile
La Bastide Blanche is a family-owned estate located in Sainte-Anne-du-Castellet, in the heart of the Bandol appellation.
Established in 1972, the estate produces red, white, and rosé wines with a focus on showcasing the unique character of the region’s terroir. Set against the foothills of the Sainte-Baume mountain range and just seven kilometers from the Mediterranean Sea, the vineyards benefit from limestone scree soils and an ideal microclimate.
Viticulture
The vineyard is planted on red clay soils with an east to northeast exposure, providing optimal sun exposure and drainage. The vines, averaging 40 years of age, contribute depth and complexity to this single-vineyard cuvée. Production varies each vintage, reflecting the unique conditions of the growing season.
Winemaking
Total destemming before a 25-day vatting period, during which regular pumping over introduced oxygen to enhance extraction. Fermentation was carried out with indigenous yeasts, preserving the wine’s natural character. The wine was then aged in 32-hectoliter casks to develop complexity and structure.
Tasting Note
The colour is a clear garnet red, with a floral nose featuring delicate scents of violet, iris, and laurel. The bouquet develops further, revealing subtle hints of white pepper. On the palate, the wine is fine and bright, supported by supple and elegant tannins, finishing with notes of blue flowers and zan.
