Pierre Gaillard continues to produce some of the most stunning wines from his 25ha domaine near Malleval.

Handling the Viognier, Roussanne, Marsanne and Syrah with the same gifted care, he offers a very fine and wide range of wines. We are only importing a limited selection from his superlative collection. When he is not busy in the Northern Rhône, he is helping his daughters, Jeanne in Crozes Hermitage and Elise in Banyuls, whilst even finding time to run a small estate in Faugères.

Viticulture

Pierre Gaillard’s vineyards are situated in the highlands of Malleval, Chavanay, and Limony, in the northern section of the Saint-Joseph appellation. The 25-hectare domaine sits on steep, cool, granite-rich soils, which impart a distinctive mineral character to his wines. The varied altitudes and exposures of the parcels provide blending flexibility, ensuring consistent quality. He farms organically (certified), focusing on low yields and hand harvesting.

Winemaking

Each parcel of grapes is destemmed and vinified separately using traditional methods. A cold soak maceration is employed to extract aromas and colour, followed by fermentation—often with indigenous yeasts—in stainless steel and concrete tanks. Maceration is carefully controlled to achieve the desired tannin extraction. The wine is aged mostly in used Allier and Nevers oak barrels for 18 months and bottled unfiltered.

Tasting Note

This wine offers a bouquet of red and black fruits, including cherry and blueberry, complemented by notes of black pepper and a touch of cinnamon. On the palate, it reveals present yet not overpowering tannins, providing a harmonious balance between fruitiness and structure. The finish is clean and persistent, showcasing the wine's elegance and depth.

Classic Rhône cuisine such as roasted lamb, beef stew, or game dishes. It also complements charcuterie, grilled vegetables, and mature cheeses.
