Producer Profile

Château Treytins is perhaps better known for its Lalande de Pomerol wine but since 1998 it has also produced a Montagne St-Emilion the largest of Saint-Emilion's satellite appellations.

Planted on gravelly soil located in part on a hillside, the average age of the vines is about 25 years. This vineyard is planted mostly with Merlot with a small amount of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Viticulture

Slightly over 5 hectares on soils ranging from sandy-loam to gravel located partially on a hillside. The yields at Château Treytins are limited by Double Guyot pruning as well as bud removal. Leaf removal and crop thinning are carried out too when necessary.

Winemaking

The grapes are sorted on a vibrating table. Vinification in temperature controlled in stainless steal vats. Fermentation is followed by a long maceration. The wine is matured for 18 months in air conditioned cellars and is bottled on site.

Tasting Note

The 2020 Château Treytins opens with an inviting bouquet of ripe black cherries, crushed blackberries, and a gentle lift of violet. Subtle layers of cedar, graphite, and warm baking spices emerge with air, hinting at its time in oak. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, with a supple texture and fine-grained tannins that frame the fruit beautifully. Juicy plum and cassis dominate the mid-palate, supported by earthy undertones and a touch of cocoa. The acidity is fresh yet integrated, giving the wine a lively energy without overshadowing its plush core. The finish is long and harmonious, leaving lingering notes of dark fruit, spice, and a whisper of minerality. Approachable now with a short decant, but it will reward 5–8 years of cellaring for added complexity.
