Domaine Chatzivaritis, Migma Petnat White, Kilkis, Goumenissa, Greece, 2023

Producer Profile
Founded in 1994 by Vagelis Chatzivaritis, the Chatzivaritis Estate is located in the heart of Goumenissa, Macedonia, Greece.
The winery spans 20 hectares of organically farmed vineyards across the regions of Bindabla, Filyria, Plagia, Pentalofos, and Griva. The estate cultivates indigenous Greek grape varieties such as Xinomavro, Negoska, Roditis, Malagousia, Muscat, and Assyrtiko, while also growing small plots of international varieties like Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Sauvignon. In 2017, Vagelis’ daughter Chloi returned to Greece after winemaking studies in France and Portugal. She brought with her a modern, low-intervention philosophy, introducing natural winemaking techniques, including pétillant naturel and carbonic maceration.
Viticulture
Migma comes from organically cultivated vineyards located in Pentalofos and Griva, two sites within the Goumenissa wine-growing region situated at an altitude of 700 metres. The vineyards are planted in medium-textured sandy clay soils, providing excellent drainage and mineral balance. The estate focuses on sustainable farming practices that nurture soil health and biodiversity, ensuring that the fruit expresses the unique terroir of the region.
Winemaking
afted using 70% Negoska and 30% Xinomavro grapes, which undergo a brief maceration before spontaneous co-fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The wine is bottled mid-fermentation, allowing fermentation to complete naturally in the bottle, creating its signature sparkling character. There are no additions, fining, or filtration involved, and the wine is aged on lees in the bottle for six months. The process culminates in manual disgorgement, and notably, no sulfur is added, preserving the wine’s pure and natural expression.
Tasting Note
Migma Pet-Nat Rosé dazzles with an intense pink colour and an inviting bouquet bursting with fresh cherries and strawberries. On the palate, it is lively and refreshing, characterized by crisp and high acidity that balances perfectly with well-formed, delicate bubbles. This natural sparkling wine offers a vibrant, fruit-forward experience with a clean, lingering finish.
