Domaine Grand Veneur, Côtes du Rhône Rouge, Southern Rhône, France (37.5cl.), 2022

Producer Profile
Christophe and Sébastien Jaume have now taken over from their father, Alain, and have carefully expanded this domaine.
The range is exceptional, with the whites equally superb as the reds: ‘La Fontaine’ is consistently rated one of the best white Châteauneufs while ‘Les Origines’ delivers the class expected of a premium cuvée with many international accolades. There is no weak wine here, and the well-priced Côtes du Rhône is produced from vines situated only metres away from those of the famous Château Beaucastel.
Viticulture
Grown on well-drained clay-limestone and sandy soils in the Southern Rhône. The vineyards benefit from sustainable practices, hand harvesting, and low yields to enhance concentration and freshness.
Winemaking
Traditional fermentation with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks, followed by ageing in large old oak foudres to maintain fruit purity and add gentle complexity without overpowering the wine’s vibrancy.
Tasting Note
Vibrant and expressive, this red bursts with red cherry, wild blackberry, and spiced black pepper aromas, intertwined with hints of garrigue herbs and a touch of smoky oak. The palate is supple and lively, with juicy fruit, soft tannins, and a fresh, persistent finish.
