Domaine Jean Perrier et Fils, Crémant De Savoie, Savoie, France, N/V
Producer Profile
‘Traditional’ hardly describes the Perrier family, who have lived and worked in the Alps for more than seven generations and seem to be hewn from the very rock that surrounds them.
Their wine style and dedication to local grape varieties such as Jacquère has never wavered and like the region’s mountains remains resolute. All the better for it – these wines are stunningly different and enthralling, with flavours on the palate that you would be hard pressed to find anywhere else. Embodying their terroir and being resistant to change has made these wines special, delightful and truly regional.
The vineyards are spread across multiple communes in Savoie, planted on a mix of clay‑limestone soils for whites and granite alongside clay‑limestone for reds, often with south‑eastern exposures to maximise ripening. The estate focuses on indigenous varieties such as Jacquère, Altesse (Roussette), Roussanne (Bergeron), Gamay and Mondeuse. Sustainable practices are central to vineyard management, with hand harvesting and careful work required on steep alpine slopes to ensure quality fruit and preserve the health of the environment.
Winemaking
A méthode traditionelle Cremant produced from Jacquère and a little Chardonnay. 8 or 10 grammes of "liqueur de dosage" are added to give the wine a softer rounder finish and a little more body.
Tasting Note
A very fruity sparkling wine with a strong personality.
