Funkstille, Zweigelt Rosé, Niederösterreich, Austria, 2025
Producer Profile
Now more than ever we need a little ‘Funkstille’ or radio silence in our lives, so it was only natural that as interest and desire for Austrian wines grew, so would our range.
Comprising a quintet that includes expressions of Austria’s most famous grape varieties and archetypal styles in some eye- popping packaging. Funkstille works with a 16th generation producer in Niederösterreich to put together this characterful range.
Viticulture
The dark berried Zweigelt grapes come from selected south facing vineyards, perfectly exposed to the sun. Great care and attention is taken with canopy management in order to balance the leaf density of the vines and ensure good air-flow and healthy grapes.
Winemaking
The winery is energy neutral, producing energy from their Biogas plant and a Photovoltaic system which produces more energy than is required. The grapes are whole bunch pressed and spend 6 hours on the skins to extract the colour before the must is fermented in stainless steel tank with selected yeasts.
Tasting Note
A delicate, pale pink rosé with a beautifully light hue. Fresh and youthful on the nose, it offers elegant aromas of wild strawberry, redcurrant and a whisper of rose petal. The palate is dry and crisp, with bright, refreshing acidity and a graceful, light-bodied texture. Subtle red-berry nuances glide through the mid‑palate, lifted by a touch of citrus zest and a gentle mineral edge. The finish is clean, refreshing and confidently precise, leaving a lingering sense of purity and finesse.
