Producer Profile

Jean Marc Grussaute is producing some of the most sought after Jurançons at his 11ha Camin Larredya.

The dry wines are precise, powerful, but fresh and perfectly balanced. The sweet wines also display the same liveliness and precision; the residual sweetness is always in harmony with the crisp, balancing acidity.

Viticulture

The vineyards, located at altitudes between 250 and 325 metres, are planted on clay-siliceous soils with altered pudding subsoils. The vines average 25 years in age. Younger vines are trained using single Guyot pruning, while older vines follow the double Guyot system. Planting density ranges from 4,000 to 5,000 vines per hectare, with yields averaging 30 hl/ha. Production is limited to 10,000 bottles, classifying this wine as a "Moelleux" (sweet) Jurançon. Camin Larredya is renowned for its dedication to traditional winemaking and crafting high-quality Jurançon wines. The cuvée "Les Grains des Copains" reflects a focus on quality and a careful selection of grapes.

Winemaking

The grapes, which are raisined but without botrytis, are harvested manually between 25th October and 10th November. The grapes are not destemmed before pressing, and fermentation occurs directly with native yeasts in 225-litre barrels (5% new) and 1,200-litre thermoregulated barrels (tuns). The wine is aged for six months on its lees in the same 225-litre barrels (5% new) and 1,200-litre tuns used for fermentation [Residual sugar is 52g/l].

Tasting Note

This wine presents a brilliant golden-yellow hue. The nose is expressive, offering aromas of ripe tropical fruits such as mango, pineapple, and mandarin, complemented by floral notes. On the palate, it is round and harmonious, balancing sweetness with refreshing acidity, leading to a clean, fruity finish.

Food Matching

Ideal as an aperitif or paired with dishes like foie gras, roasted poultry with raisins, blue cheeses, or fruit-based desserts.
