Château Branas Grand Poujeaux is a leading estate in the Moulis-en-Médoc appellation, purchased by Justin Onclin in 2002 with the ambition of unlocking the full potential of its exceptional terroir.

Situated on the renowned Grand Poujeaux plateau between the celebrated châteaux of Poujeaux and Chasse-Spleen, the estate has earned recognition for producing wines that combine maturity, power and concentration with precision, elegance and finesse. Today, the vineyard team focuses on expressing the individuality of each parcel while crafting wines that reflect the unique character of this highly regarded yet discreet Médoc appellation.

Viticulture

Produced from Garonne gravel soils dating from the Günz period in the Moulis-en-Médoc appellation. The vineyard is farmed using traditional, meticulous viticultural practices, with all grapes harvested by hand. The blend comprises 50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Winemaking

Traditional vinification with pumping over, punch-downs and rack-and-return techniques to optimise extraction and structure. The wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, 30% of which are new, adding subtle complexity while preserving the wine's fruit character.

Tasting Note

The second wine of the property reveals a crunchy and “gourmand” fruitiness. A blend of Merlot and Cabernet-Sauvignon and a touch of Petit Verdot, it is well-balanced and offers a beautiful enhancement of the fruit. Complex and intense on the nose, revealing aromas of ripe blackberry, cassis and plum layered with sweet spice and a touch of cedar. The palate is rich and opulent, combining power with elegance, supported by fine tannins and a fresh, balanced finish.

Food matching

Excellent with roast veal rack, rib of beef with wild mushroom sauce, saddle of lamb, duck confit cottage pie and mature cheeses.
