Adrien Berlioz, Lucien, Vin de Savoie AOP, France, 2024

Producer Profile
Located at the foothills of the Bauges massif, and bordering neighbouring Switzerland and Valle d’Aosta in Italy, the organically farmed vineyards of Domaine Adrien Berlioz in the Savoie region are as picturesque as you might imagine. Adrien took over the family vineyards in 2006, two hectares located near a small village called Chignin at 390m above sea level.
Viticulture
Grown on steep slopes in the heart of the Savoie, the vineyards benefit from high altitudes, cool nights, and well-drained limestone soils. Adrien Berlioz farms biodynamically and organically and certified in both, with a deep commitment to soil health and biodiversity. Each parcel is meticulously managed by hand, and yields are kept low to enhance concentration and precision in the wines.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested manually and pressed gently to preserve aromatic delicacy. Fermentation is carried out with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks at low temperatures to retain purity and freshness. The wine is aged on fine lees for several months to add texture and subtle complexity, with no oak used to interfere with the varietal expression.
Tasting Note
‘Lucien’ is a striking expression of the Jacquère grape, offering a crystal-clear pale straw hue with silvery highlights. The nose is exquisitely fresh and alpine in character, with aromas of green apple, mountain herbs, lemon peel, crushed rock, and white blossom. On the palate, it is zippy and ultra-refreshing, with a feather-light body, crisp acidity, and clean, stony minerality. Subtle citrus and orchard fruit notes linger on a brisk, saline finish, making this a wine of great tension, purity, and mountain elegance.
