Domaine Adrien Berlioz, Lucien, Vin de Savoie AOP, France, 2024

Producer Profile

Located at the foothills of the Bauges massif, and bordering both Switzerland and the Valle d’Aosta of Italy, the organically farmed vineyards of Domaine Adrien Berlioz in the Savoie region are as picturesque as you might imagine.

Adrien took over the family vineyards in 2006 – just 2ha near the small village of Chignin at 390m above sea level.

Viticulture

Grown on steep slopes in the heart of the Savoie, the vineyards benefit from high altitudes, cool nights, and well-drained clay-limestone soils. Adrien Berlioz farms biodynamically and organically and certified in both, with a deep commitment to soil health and biodiversity. Each parcel is meticulously managed by hand, and yields are kept low to enhance concentration and precision in the wines.

Winemaking

The grapes are harvested manually and pressed gently to preserve aromatic delicacy. Fermentation is carried out with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks at low temperatures to retain purity and freshness. The wine is aged on fine lees for several months to add texture and subtle complexity, with no oak used to interfere with the varietal expression.

Tasting Note

Lucien offers ripe stone fruits such as apricot and peach, layered with brioche, delicate spice, nashi pear, and a touch of acacia honey. Generous and rounded, with luscious peach and apricot at the core. The finish is fine and elegant, lifted by a vibrant acidity that carries the wine with finesse.

Food Matching

Tartiflette with reblochon, lardons, and creamy potatoes, or raclette with melted cheese poured over charcuterie and cornichons.
