Producer Profile

Domaine de Courcel is a historic family-owned estate in Pommard, Burgundy, producing a distinguished range of wines from seven distinct vineyard plots, all situated within the Pommard appellation.

Currently, the domaine is managed by Anne Bommelaer and Marie de Courcel, along with their children, Constance de Leusse and Edouard de Courcel. Since 2025, Pierre Clair has been supporting the family as the estate manager. Approximately 75% of the estate's vineyards are classified as Premier Cru, highlighting their exceptional quality and terroir. Domaine de Courcel's commitment to expressing the unique characteristics of each terroir results in wines of notable elegance, complexity, and aging potential.

Viticulture

The Bourgogne Pinot Noir is adjacent to the Pommard appellation. The brown soil originates from the coteaux and builds up at the bottom of the slope on flatter grounds. The depth of the soil can reach up to 1m. The presence of rocks enables a thorough filtration of the soil. The vines are 40 years of age and produce wine that is close in many characteristics to the Pommard Village, but with a greater focus on red or even black fruits. This enables the wines to be more open when young.

Tasting Note

Deep crimson hue. The nose reveals slight vegetal hints with a touch of roasted character. Initially sweet and seductive on the palate, offering a round, flattering texture. However, a disconcerting gassy note emerges, though it’s balanced by some underlying substance. Cherry fruit lingers just enough to carry the dry finish.

Food Matching

Roast Chicken or duck, smoked ham, beetroot and goats cheese salad.
