Domaine Pellé, Menetou-Salon, Morogues Blanc, Loire, France, 2023

Producer Profile

The Domaine, directed by Anne Pellé and her son Paul-Henry, is without question the leader in the appellation.

The quality of the wines has significantly improved over the last two decades, keeping the charm and rigour given by the Kimmeridgian terroir. Using organic methods in the vineyards they have also improved and modernised the winery to produce clear, striking and racy Sauvignons on a par with the best in Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé. This estate follows environmentally conscientious philosophies, with discipline and rigour aimed at a low-interventionist approach.

Viticulture

Morogues Blanc comes from a 12-hectare vineyard planted with vines averaging 25 years of age. With a high planting density of 7,500 vines per hectare, the vineyard sits on Kimmeridgian marl soils and benefits from an east-west exposure, all of which play a key role in shaping the wine’s distinctive character.

Winemaking

Direct pressing of grapes upon arrival at the winery, the juice is then settled before fermentation, which is done in stainless steel vats. The wine is aged on its lees, adding complexity; predominantly in stainless steel vats, with some ageing in wooden vats and casks. No new oak is used.

Tasting Note

Pale gold with green hints and offers discreet aromas of white blossom and citrus. On the palate it’s crisp and crystalline, sharply focused on lime and pear, with a refined mineral salinity that extends into a clear, lingering finish.

Food Matching

Delicate white fish—especially with creamy herb sauces—and fresh goat’s cheese.
