Alliance Wine secures ISO 14001

The international standard for Environmental Management Systems (EMS).

Alliance Wine has been certified to ISO 14001:2015 for its UK operations, strengthening its position as one of the country’s most environmentally responsible wine distributors.

The company demonstrated its commitment to environmental performance by achieving this certification with a flawless audit at the first attempt, underscoring that its systems and practices meet internationally recognised standards for environmental management.

The certification followed a rigorous Stage 1 and Stage 2 audits over 4 days. Auditors found zero non‑conformities, confirming both a flawless long-term performance and the strength of Alliance’s committed approach and development of their bespoke environmental management system. The independent assessment, carried out across all Alliance’s UK offices, praised the maturity, structure, and effectiveness of the company’s environmental approach.

Linda Cowan, Operations Director, said:

Achieving this certification is a major step forward in our mission to build a wine business that can generate positive impact. It’s a testament to the passion of our teams in Scotland and London and our conviction that environmental leadership will define the future of our industry.”

Following the certification announcement, the audit team outlined the breadth and sophistication of Alliance’s environmental management system. Their assessment covered every aspect of performance - from leadership and planning through to operations, carbon management, compliance and continual improvement - and highlighted several clear strengths. These included robust environmental risk assessments, well‑established staff training and engagement, and effective waste‑management partnerships that support the company’s zero‑waste‑to‑landfill ambitions. Auditors also praised key operational measures, including the use of renewable electricity, a decarbonisation plan supported by an innovative in‑setting scheme, and clearly defined eco‑design standards.

The audit findings also recognised Alliance’s proactive investment in carbon measurement technology, its use of independent verification partners, and the development of a detailed carbon‑reduction plan aligned with ISO 14064‑1, further evidence of the company’s commitment to measurable, science‑based environmental action.

Marta Juega Rivera, Head of Positive Impact, commented:

“Achieving a flawless audit outcome is a testament to our team’s passion for environmental excellence. It reinforces that sustainability isn’t an add‑on for Alliance, it’s built into every process, every decision, and every bottle we move.”

With this certification from the British Assessment Bureau, Alliance reinforces its position as a leader in the UK wine trade, demonstrating that rigorous environmental responsibility is a viable choice.
