Producer Profile

Olivier Leflaive is a respected négociant and wine producer based in Puligny-Montrachet, in the heart of Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune.

Emerging from a long line of Burgundian vignerons, Olivier Leflaive founded his own house in the early 1990s, branching out independently from the famed Domaine Leflaive. Today, the estate encompasses approximately 17 hectares of owned vineyards and sources fruit from over 100 hectares of contracted growers across Burgundy, including prestigious areas such as Chablis, the Côte Chalonnaise, and the Côte de Beaune. Known for its refined white wines, the house also maintains a small but focused production of red wines and Aligoté. Beyond winemaking, Olivier Leflaive has become a benchmark for Burgundy hospitality, offering luxurious accommodations, vineyard tours, and fine dining through its award-winning hotel, bistro, and Klima restaurant.

Viticulture

The name of this terroir originates from “follots,” or will-o’-the-wisps, mysterious lights that once danced over its humid, often fog-laden landscapes. As the largest vineyard in the village, it enjoys an eastern exposure that bathes the vines in abundant morning sunlight, promoting early and even ripening. The powerful yet elegant character of its Chardonnay is shaped by the distinctive limestone scree and shallow subsoil, which impart remarkable minerality and finesse. The grapes for this cuvée come from three carefully selected parcels, each contributing unique nuances to the final blend.

Winemaking

The winemaking process begins with 100% whole grape pressing, capturing the purest expression of the fruit. After a delicate 24-hour static settling to clarify the juice, both alcoholic and malolactic fermentations take place in oak barrels, enriching the wine’s complexity and texture. The wine then matures gracefully over 18 months—12 months in oak barrels followed by 6 months in stainless steel tanks—allowing perfect balance and integration. Crafted entirely in oak barrels, with 10% new oak lending subtle spice and structure, this method produces a wine of exceptional depth, elegance, and finesse.

Tasting Note

A very beautiful aromatic expression of tropical fruitiness with fresh mango and notes of white peach. A lovely presence in the mouth.
