Bouchié Chatellier
Rubbing neighbourly shoulders with the inimitable Didier Dagueneau, and with vines planted on the same Silex soils as Didier’s, the domaine’s gently tended vines benefit from the same high proportion of flint, which stores and reflects the heat so well. The resulting level of ripeness, as well as an incredibly rich, flinty minerality, imbue the wine with a delicious complexity that few of its rivals can match. Planted on Silex soils, which contains a high proportion of flint which stores and reflects heat well, providing levels of ripeness above others in similar climates as well as giving the wine an incredibly rich flinty minerality. They work "Selection Massale", replanting the vines when necessary with cuttings from exceptional old vines from the same or nearby vineyards. This is an ancient practice, of propagating vineyard's that have been replaced with vine clone nurseries as this benefits in the long term and helps to increase the individuality and uniqueness of the wine.
Viticulture
The vineyards are sited at the top of the hill overlooking the gentle slopes down towards the Loire River and offer superb panoramic views. The oldest vines are around 65 years, and as with tradition are pruned single Guyot or Cordon Royat. The estate places strong emphasis on precision and care in the vineyard. Harvest dates are determined through detailed grape analysis to identify the optimal picking window. Grapes are manually sorted twice: first directly in the vineyard, and again at the press loading stage, ensuring only the highest‑quality fruit is selected for vinification. This rigorous approach underpins the purity and consistency of the wines produced.
Winemaking
Winemaking at Domaine Bouchié‑Chatellier combines traditional know‑how with modern techniques. A temperature‑controlled underground cellar, built alongside the historic cellar beneath the family home, allows for optimal ageing conditions. Vinification and bottling are carried out using gravity, minimising handling to preserve the natural character of the wine. A dedicated bottling facility and laboratory ensure strict quality control and compliance with international market standards, while enabling a diverse range of cuvées to be produced.
