Bulgarian wine making has come a long way from being a reliable source of cheap and cheerful international varieties in the 70's and 80's and the dark days of post communism.

Foreign investment and expertise has successfully revived the three millennia wine making history and started to yield some top quality wines that, tasted blind, few would imagine are Bulgarian.

A particular hotspot is the Thracian lowlands in Southern Bulgaria where the Bessa Valley Winery is based.
