Royal Oporto is the flagship Port wine brand of Real Companhia Velha, one of Portugal’s most historic wine companies.

The brand name originated from the way English wine merchants traditionally referred to Real Companhia Velha as the “Royal Oporto Wine Company”, acknowledging the Royal Charter that established the company, its connection to the city of Oporto, and the ease with which the name could be pronounced internationally. Today, Royal Oporto represents the company’s presence on the global stage, showcasing a range of premium Port wines that reflect centuries of winemaking heritage and expertise.

Viticulture

Produced from traditional white Port varieties grown on steep schistous Douro Valley vineyards. Low-yielding old vines provide concentration, aromatic intensity and excellent natural acidity, allowing the wine to develop complexity during extended ageing.

Winemaking

Grapes are hand-harvested and fermented under controlled conditions before fortification with grape spirit. The wine is then aged for an extended period, with careful blending of different lots to achieve the house style and average age statement.

Tasting Note

Bright golden in colour with aromas of dried apricot, orange peel, honey and toasted almonds. The palate is rich yet fresh, combining candied citrus, caramelised nuts and subtle spice, with a lingering, elegant finish.
