Viticulture

Dryland bush vine grapes were planted in 1966 and 1980 on decomposed granite vineyards on the western side of Paardeberg. These old vines have through the decades adapted to survive and produce unbelievable grapes in these tough growing conditions. These grapes were picked when optimally ripe and produced a wine that’s very true to its terroir.

Winemaking

Grapes were destemmed and pressed and left overnight to settle in stainless steel tanks. The 1968 vineyard was fermented in Italian concrete tank. The 1980 planted vineyard was fermented in 500Litre French oak barrel. Both parcels were left on their lees for 10 months without battonage. No commercial yeast or enzymes were used during the winemaking process. 80% of the wine was fermented and aged in concrete.

Tasting Note

This Chenin Blanc captivates with a vibrant, textured personality—zesty citrus and ripe peach dance alongside creamy vanilla and subtle hazelnut. The palate reveals poised tension, layers of citrus zest, green apple, and gentle stone-fruit, all supported by saline minerality. A structured, bone-dry finish leaves a refined, lingering impression.

Food Matching

Sushi and oyster platters, risotto with wild mushrooms or creamy goat cheeses.
