Vina Elena, Bruma del Estrecho de Marin, Paraje Marin, DO Jumilla, Spain, 2025
Producer Profile
This is the deeply personal project of Elena Pacheco and Isio Ramos, encapsulating the very different effects of terroir on their much-loved Monastrell grape.
Each wine comes from a different plot and expresses its startling individuality through microclimate, soil, aspect and age of the vines. The proojects spans two locations (Marín and Las Encebras), three specific plots (Mandiles, Vereda and Particiones) and one estate (Casa Quemada).
Viticulture
Hand harvested in September from 15 to 35 year old dry-farmed bush vines planted at a low density of 1,400 to 1,600 vines per ha and situated on limestone soils located on both sides of the Marin valley situated at about 380 metres above sea level in the southern subzone of the D.O.P Jumilla.
Winemaking
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks using native yeasts, at temperatures below 27°C. Malolactic fermentation proceeds slowly in concrete tanks, where the wine is then aged for six months in the historic winery, built in 1948. Unfined and not cold-stabilised.
Tasting Note
Fresh, fruit-driven and medium-bodied, this versatile wine pairs well with tapas, sushi, salads, risottos, pizza and Mediterranean rice dishes. Also excellent with grilled fish, including turbot and salmon, and white meats.
Food matching
A great wine for tapas, sushi, grilled salmon, baked cod with tomato sauce, risotto, Arroz y conejo and white meats. Also, excellent wine to pair with Thai, Cantonese and Italian cuisine.
