Producer Profile

Not far from the village of Saumur is an estate on the land of Chacé.

Eight generations have succeeded each other running this estate, with the most recent, the Foucault brothers, Charly and Nady adopting a singular philosophy to enhance the terroirs of Saumur and Saumur-Champigny since their inception in the 1980's of "leave the wine in peace so it can expresses its own identity". Purchased by the Bouygues family on 2017, they continue the work begun by their predecessors with a deep respect for the heritage that has gone before them.

Viticulture

The Le Clos vineyard is located in the Saumur-Champigny appellation of the Loire Valley, known for its exceptional clay and limestone soils. The vines are cultivated using organic farming practices, with minimal intervention to allow the terroir to express itself fully. The vineyard's unique microclimate and soil composition contribute to the wine's distinctive character and aging potential.

Winemaking

Hand-harvested and undergo a gentle pressing to extract the juice. Fermentation occurs in cement vats using native yeasts, followed by an extended ageing period of 18 to 24 months in neutral oak barrels. This traditional winemaking approach ensures that the wine retains its purity and reflects the unique characteristics of the Le Clos terroir.

Tasting Note

A medium-bodied, dry red wine made from 100% Cabernet Franc. It displays a deep ruby colour and offers aromas of ripe blackberries, cherries, and subtle floral notes. On the palate, the wine is elegant and structured, with flavours of red fruits, herbs, and a touch of spice. The finish is long and refined, with well-integrated tannins and a refreshing acidity.

An excellent companion to dishes with earthy flavours, such as mushroom risotto or truffle-infused dishes.
