Domaine de Suremain comprises 18 hectares of vines spread across some of Mercurey's finest appellations.

The property has been in the same family for seven generations and is currently run by Yves Suremain, his wife Marie-Hélène and their son Loïc. Vineyards are situated on the high-slopes and mid-slopes facing to the south and east, in the heart of the appellation.

Viticulture

Domaine de Suremain comprises of 18 hectares of vineyards in prime Mercurey appellations. The vineyards are situated on south-east facing slopes, both high and mid-slope, in the heart of Mercurey, overlooking the Château du Bourgneuf. The soils are a complex blend of red clay and chalky limestone transitioning to yellow marls, contributing to the wine's depth and complexity. Domaine de Suremain practices sustainable viticulture, prioritising soil health and biodiversity; a “lutte raisonnée” approach, adapting their work and treatments to vintage climatic conditions.

Winemaking

Harvest is gathered by hand into small crates before being carefully sorted on ‘une table de tri’. Fermentations initiated by natural yeasts in open oak cuves of 50-100hl, cru by cru. Sensitively judged égrappage & pigeage are applied thoughtfully. Wines are then matured in French oak barriques (10-15% new) for 14-18 months.

Tasting Note

A classic Pinot Noir from Mercurey, showing bright red cherry, wild strawberry, and cranberry aromas, with hints of rose petal, spice, and forest floor. The palate is medium-bodied and fresh, with fine tannins and a savory, mineral-tinged finish.

Food Matching

Ideal with roast duck, pork, mushroom-based dishes, or grilled salmon. Pairs well with charcuterie and soft cheeses like Brie or Reblochon.
