Domaine de Suremain
The property has been in the same family for seven generations and is currently run by Yves Suremain, his wife Marie-Hélène and their son Loïc. The vineyards are situated on the high and mid-slopes facing to the south and east, in the heart of the appellation.
Viticulture
The domaine’s holdings include six red Mercurey cuvées, of which five are Premier Cru vineyards, as well as a single white Premier Cru, Mercurey “En Sazenay”. Vineyard work is guided by a lutte raisonnée approach, with an emphasis on respecting the environment and adapting practices to the conditions of each vintage rather than following a rigid formula. All grapes are hand‑harvested in small crates and sorted carefully to preserve fruit quality. This measured, practical viticulture allows the individuality of each climat to be clearly expressed in the finished wines.
Winemaking
Vinification at Domaine de Suremain is conducted cru by cru, with fermentations taking place in open oak cuves of 50–100 hectolitres. The wines are then matured in French oak barriques, typically with 10–15% new oak, over a period of 14 to 18 months, depending on the cuvée and vintage. This restrained use of oak supports structure and longevity without dominating the fruit or masking terroir. The overall style remains classically Burgundian, balancing depth, precision and elegance.
