Domaine Gilles Gaudron, Vouvray Demi-Sec, Les Pierres Rousses, Vernou-sur-Brenne, Touraine, Loire, France, 2023

Producer Profile
Fourth generation Gilles took over the family domaine in 1993.
Composed of 50 separate, small parcels of vineyards, the estate is planted on limestone-clay soils spread over 27 hectares. Still aided by his father Sylvain, Gilles Gaudron produces top quality, traditional Vouvrays with pure fruit characters and striking terroir expression.
Viticulture
Grown on clay-limestone soils over tuffeau in Vernou-sur-Brenne. Vines average over 30 years of age and are cultivated sustainably, with grass cover crops and minimal chemical use to promote biodiversity.
Winemaking
Harvested in early October, the grapes are gently pressed and the juice is settled for up to 24 hours. Fermentation takes place at low temperatures with indigenous yeasts over the course of about a month, followed by natural clarification through winter rackings.
Tasting Note
Aromas of ripe pear, baked apple and white flowers lead into a gently off-dry palate with flavours of quince and honeyed citrus. Fresh acidity and a mineral finish provide balance and elegance.
Food Matching
Ideal with mildly spiced Asian dishes, glazed poultry, soft cheeses or pear-based desserts.
