Domaine Gilles Gaudron
The Gaudron family has been making wine here since 1890, with four generations dedicated to expressing the finesse and versatility of Chenin Blanc. Gilles Gaudron took over the running of the domaine in 1993 and continues to work closely with his father Sylvain, maintaining a classical Vouvray style rooted in purity and terroir expression.
Viticulture
The estate comprises 27 hectares of vineyards, divided into around 50 small parcels, all planted to Chenin Blanc. The vineyards lie on classic limestone‑clay soils over tuffeau, a defining feature of Vouvray that contributes minerality, freshness and ageing potential. Many of the vines are over 30 years old, and vineyard management follows a reasoned, low‑intervention approach, limiting chemical inputs and encouraging biodiversity. Grass cover between rows supports soil health and deep root systems.
Winemaking
Winemaking at Domaine Gilles Gaudron is deliberately traditional. Fermentations take place under controlled temperatures to preserve freshness and aromatics, with careful handling of the fruit to maintain Chenin Blanc’s natural acidity and texture. Both still and sparkling wines are matured in the domaine’s impressive 13th‑century tuffeau cellars, which provide ideal conditions for slow ageing and development.
