Viticulture
The estate's vineyards extend across more than 600 plots arranged in a horseshoe formation around the striking landscape that surrounds the winery. Respect for the environment lies at the heart of the estate's philosophy and, despite the challenges involved, the winery has established the largest area of organically farmed vineyards in north-west Spain, with almost 100 hectares under its ownership. Over the years, new vineyards have been planted alongside the restoration and conversion of historic sites. These exceptional conditions allow the winery to craft wines with a distinctive sense of identity and place.
Winemaking
The Gancedo project builds on a long family tradition of viticulture and winemaking in the Bierzo region. Generations of the family were involved in grape growing and wine production, and today the winery continues that legacy under the guidance of its owners, whose expertise in engineering and soil science provides a deep understanding of terroir. Driven by a passion for viticulture and the expression of place, the project was established to revive and develop the family's historic connection to winemaking. Grapes are harvested by hand to ensure optimum fruit quality. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks using native yeasts, allowing the vineyard character to shine through. Following fermentation, the wine is aged on its lees for approximately two months to enhance texture and complexity. Before bottling, the wine undergoes gentle fining and filtration to preserve purity and freshness.
Tasting Note
Bright yellow in colour with attractive clarity. Delicate mineral nuances lift the nose, complemented by fresh aromas of ripe pear and crisp apple. The palate is lively and well-balanced, showing vibrant fruit character and refreshing acidity. Concentrated and expressive, it develops impressive depth through the mid-palate and finishes long, clean and persistent with lingering orchard fruit and mineral notes.
