Earthsong

Earthsong is a New Zealand project from the team behind Thistledown Wines in South Australia, created to express the purity, texture and vibrancy of Marlborough.

With a deep connection to place, the focus is on single‑vineyard wines that reflect the character of their sites across the Riverlands, Dillons Point and the Southern Valleys. The original Single Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc from Dillons Point established the Earthsong style: tropical intensity, saline freshness and a vivid sense of place, all shaped by a sustainably accredited vineyard and a winemaking approach centred on precision and purity. Legato Single Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc offers a more textural, harmonious expression, showing layered fruit and a softer, more nuanced balance that highlights another facet of Marlborough’s terroir. The Southern Valleys Single Vineyard Pinot Noir extends the range into red wine, drawing on clay‑rich slopes that naturally deliver depth, structure and darker fruit. Its fine tannins and restrained power show Marlborough’s ability to produce Pinot Noir with both vibrancy and poise. Across the range, sustainability is central, aligned with Sustainable Winegrowing NZ™ standards. Winemaking remains minimal and focused, aiming to capture each vineyard’s character with clarity, balance and respect for the land.

Viticulture

Earthsong’s viticultural style is defined by a deep respect for site and a commitment to sustainable, low‑intervention farming. Each vineyard is chosen for its ability to express a clear sense of place, whether through the saline freshness of Dillons Point, the textural nuance of other Marlborough sub‑regions, or the natural concentration of the Southern Valleys. Work in the vines focuses on maintaining balance and vitality: careful canopy management, thoughtful crop levels and close attention to soil health ensure fruit that is both vibrant and finely structured. Sustainability underpins every decision, aligned with Sustainable Winegrowing NZ™ principles, with an emphasis on soil stewardship, water efficiency, biodiversity and climate‑aware practices. The result is fruit of purity and precision, allowing Earthsong’s wines to speak confidently and transparently of their origins.

Winemaking

The winemaking approach is built around precision, restraint and a clear desire to let each vineyard speak for itself. Fruit arrives in the cellar in pristine condition thanks to careful viticulture, allowing the team to work with a light touch. Fermentations are guided rather than forced, with stainless steel used to preserve purity in Sauvignon Blanc and gentle oak influence reserved for building subtle texture where appropriate. Lees work is employed thoughtfully to enhance mouthfeel without clouding aromatics, and intervention is kept to a minimum throughout. The guiding principle is clarity: every decision is made to protect the natural energy, balance and site expression of the fruit, resulting in wines that are vibrant, finely detailed and unmistakably shaped by place.
