PIERRE GAILLARD, France

Pierre Gaillard continues to produce some of the most stunning wines from his 25ha domaine near Malleval.

Handling the Viognier, Roussanne, Marsanne and Syrah with the same gifted care, he offers a very fine and wide range of wines. We are only importing a limited selection from his superlative collection. When he is not busy in the Northern Rhône, he is helping his daughters, Jeanne in Crozes Hermitage and Elise in Banyuls, whilst even finding time to run a small estate in Faugères.

Viticulture

The estate spans 25 hectares across several prestigious appellations, including Côte Rôtie, Saint-Joseph, Condrieu, Crozes-Hermitage, and Cornas. Pierre Gaillard is particularly renowned for his expertise with Syrah, cultivating nearly 20 hectares of this varietal. Additionally, the estate produces white wines from Viognier, Marsanne, and Roussanne. The vineyards are situated on steep, rocky hillsides with schist and granite soils, benefiting from optimal sun exposure and natural drainage. Sustainable viticultural practices are employed to ensure the health of the vines and the environment.

Winemaking

Winemaking is approached with precision and respect for the terroir. Red wines undergo fermentation with 100% destemmed fruit, and malolactic fermentation occurs in oak barrels. The use of new oak barrels ranges from 20% to 50%, depending on the cuvée and vintage character. White wines are crafted with attention to detail, highlighting the aromatic profiles of the varietals. The estate produces a diverse range of wines, including Côte Rôtie, Saint-Joseph, Condrieu, Crozes-Hermitage, Cornas, and Saint-Péray, each reflecting the unique characteristics of their respective appellations.
