Chateau Ka, Fleur de Ka, Bekaa Valley, Lebanon, 2009
Producer Profile
Château Ka is a Lebanese winery based in the Bekaa Valley, founded by Akram Kassatly, whose ambition to produce quality wine was first realised in the 1970s before being disrupted by civil war.
Production properly began in 2005, marking the revival of the project, and today the estate is recognised for crafting both fresh whites and concentrated reds. Uniquely, it is one of the few Lebanese producers to make wines exclusively from its own vineyards, ensuring strong control over quality and style
The vineyard is located at around 1,000 metres altitude at the eastern end of the Bekaa Valley, where elevation provides cooler conditions that help preserve freshness and balance. The region is dry, so irrigation is carefully managed, while all harvesting is carried out by hand during the cooler morning hours to protect grape quality. This high‑altitude, low‑rainfall environment contributes to wines with concentration, aromatic clarity and natural acidity.
Winemaking
Upon reception the grapes are destemmed and crushed. Fermentation occurs at 27-28 degrees. Maceration follows for 3 weeks. Free run wine is extracted, remaining grapes are pressed. Press wine doesn't go to the blend of this wine.
Tasting Note
A deep red Robe. Wonderful spicy nose distinguished by notes of pepper, incense and toasted bread. Fresh & elegant on the palate. Well integrated wood. Red fruits and floral. Deep tannins with a delicious smooth, long finish.
