Viticulture
The vineyards themselves are stretched across a large range of terroirs, with a multitude of local grape varieties, including Chenin Blanc, Côt, Sauvignon Blanc and Pineau d'Aunis. Using organic and biodynamic practices Jean Baptiste and Stéphane Bodet use their skills learnt in New Zealand and Bordeaux to create wines of both precision and purity. Their commitment to sustainable viticulture and producing high-quality wines that are reflective of the terroir of the Loire Valley. The grapes for the 'Le Clocher' are sourced from carefully selected 20-year-old vines on clay flint and kaolin soils in the Amboise appellation. The viticulture practices emphasise organic and biodynamic principles, minimizing the use of chemical inputs promoting biodiversity.
Winemaking
Malolactic fermentation is carefully managed to enhance the wine’s complexity and texture. It takes place in stainless steel tanks using native yeasts, preserving the purity of the fresh fruit flavours. The wine is then aged on its lees in stainless steel, allowing further development of character and depth. Bottling is carried out without filtration or fining to maintain the wine’s natural integrity.
Tasting Note
Le Clocher Sec Chenin Blanc from Amboise shows a pale golden colour with greenish hues. The nose reveals bright aromas of citrus peel, green apple, white peach, and delicate white flowers, layered with subtle notes of honey, wet stone, and minerality typical of Chenin’s terroir. On the palate, the wine is dry, lively, and fresh, with zesty acidity balanced by a textured, slightly creamy mouthfeel. Flavours of quince, citrus, and a touch of almond lead to a long, crisp, mineral-driven finish .
