Domaine Darviot-Perrin, Meursault 1er cru Charmes, Burgundy, France, 2022

Producer Profile
Domaine Darviot-Perrin was established in 1989 by Didier Darviot and Geneviève Perrin, merging the estates of Pierre Perrin-Ponsot and Henri-Jean Darviot.
Geneviève's father, Pierre Perrin, was a renowned figure in Meursault and Volnay winemaking circles. The domaine spans 11 hectares across prestigious Burgundy communes, including Meursault, Volnay, Chassagne-Montrachet, Monthelie, Pommard, and Beaune. In 2019, Didier's son, Pierre-Antonin Darviot, took over the winemaking duties after a distinguished career in the French Foreign Office. He is the 10th generation of the family to lead the estate and has since transitioned the domaine to certified organic farming, with certification achieved in 2022
Viticulture
The Meursault 1er Cru Charmes vineyard is located in the upper part of the Charmes Dessus climat. The vines, planted in 1965, benefit from a 50/50 clay-limestone soil composition. The average age of the vines is between 60 and 70 years, contributing to the wine's complexity and depth.
Winemaking
The grapes undergo a gentle pressing, followed by fermentation in oak barrels. Approximately one-third of the crop is aged in new barrels, imparting subtle oak nuances to the wine. The wine is aged for 12 months in oak barrels, allowing it to develop its characteristic richness and complexity.
Tasting Note
A pale lemon colour with green highlights. The bouquet reveals subtle aromas of ripe citrus fruits and a touch of oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied with excellent concentration, balanced by a fine acidity. The finish is long and persistent, showcasing the minerality characteristic of the Charmes Dessus terroir.
