Domaine Guiberteau, Saumur Rouge, Loire, France, 2023

Producer Profile
Domaine Guiberteau is a prestigious family-owned vineyard nestled in the heart of the Saumur area.
Founded in the early 1900s by Clément Manguin, and expanded by Robert Guiberteau with the acquisition of the iconic Clos des Carmes in 1954, the estate blends rich heritage with exceptional winemaking expertise. Since 1996, under the visionary leadership of Romain Guiberteau, the domaine has embraced a bold commitment to quality over quantity. Guided by the expertise of renowned winemaker Nady Foucault from Clos Rougeard, Domaine Guiberteau has pioneered organic farming practices and proudly achieved official organic certification in 2007. The result is a range of wines crafted with passion, tradition, and sustainable innovation – a true expression of the modern-day Loire Valley terroir.
Viticulture
The grapes are sourced from vineyards in Montreuil-Bellay, Brézé, and Bizay, with vine ages ranging from 7 to 80 years. The soils are clay-limestone, and the vineyard practices are organic, focusing on sustainability and minimal intervention.
Winemaking
100% Cabernet Franc. It undergoes spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in concrete vats, followed by maturation in stainless steel and large oak vats to preserve freshness and fruit purity.
Tasting Note
Aromas of ripe red fruits, including raspberry and cherry, complemented by subtle earthy and floral notes. On the palate, it offers a medium-bodied profile with fine tannins, balanced acidity, and a mineral-driven finish.
Food Matching
Grilled vegetables, roasted turkey, or herb-seasoned chicken. Also complements tomato-based dishes.
