Equipo Navazos, La Bota No 136 Manzanilla "Navazos", Jerez, Spain

Producer Profile

Equipo Navazos was born out of a group of friends’ desire to unearth some of the many treasures lying forgotten in the bodegas of Jerez de la Frontera, Sanlúcar de Barrameda, El Puerto de Santa Maria and Montilla… wines whose age and provenance place them among the best value in the world.

These unexpected yet fortunate findings have been made available to wine lovers around the world in limited quantities under the La Bota series (consecutively numbered editions, with the date of each ‘saca’, or withdrawal, on the label) as a mark of respect for the generations of expertise and care that have gone into making these exceptional wines. Today, however, Equipo Navazos’ efforts are increasingly focused on producing their own wines, such as Florpower, which truly express the character of Sanlúcar and its unique terroir. Beyond Andalusia, they have also collaborated with winemakers of the calibre of Dirk Niepoort and Sergi Colet to develop authentic, individual Spanish wines that never fail to impress.

Viticulture

Produced from Palomino Fino grown on the renowned albariza soils surrounding Sanlúcar de Barrameda. These chalk-rich soils retain moisture during the region's hot summers, while Atlantic influences bring freshness and contribute to the distinctive saline character associated with the finest Manzanillas. The wine expresses the pure maritime identity of Sanlúcar through its balance of freshness, minerality and complexity.

Winemaking

La Bota de Manzanilla No.136 is sourced from a meticulous selection of exceptional casks from the same soleras used for previous releases Nos. 71, 93 and 113. These casks have been individually monitored and nurtured by Eduardo Ojeda and his team since 2007 to preserve the authentic character of traditional Sanlúcar Manzanilla. Aged biologically under flor for an estimated average of seven years, the wine develops remarkable complexity while retaining freshness and vitality. Bottled with only the lightest filtration to preserve its natural character, texture and distinctive deep golden hue.

Tasting Note

Beautifully golden Manzanilla, with elegant notes of subtle nuttiness, yeasty and earthy but also a fresh hint of Andalusian shores. Then a briny, mineral-driven lift that carries through a long, delicate finish. It boasts a wonderful perfumed balance of depth and lightness that aged manzanillas give. Bready notes as well as a little saline pine. Textured and nuanced, an absolute pleasure to drink.

Food matching

Seafood, particularly grilled prawns, boiled shellfish, tuna dishes and sashimi. Its saline freshness and savoury complexity also complement marinated anchovies, oysters, mussels, salt cod.
